A general guideline for routine examinations recommended by the ITEC physicians is as follows:
*First eye exam should be performed at age 3.
*Children should have eye examinations every 1 to 3 years.
*Adults should be examined every 1 to 2 years.
*People over the age of 60 should have yearly eye examintions.
*Diabetics should be seen yearly regardless of age.
In recent years, advances in medical eye care have made it possible for cataract surgery to be performed on an outpatient basis. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, 95% of patients who undergo cataract surgery have much improved vision. By using new treatment that allows quicker return to normal activities, we often year patients say "Seeing is believing".
As a rule, damaged caused by glaucoma cannot be reversed. Eye drops, pills and laser surgical operations are used to prevent or slow damage to from occurring. Regular medical eye examinations may help prevent unnecessary vision loss.
