ROY T. HAGER, M.D., FACS

 

Native of Alabama, Dr. Hager performed his undergraduate training at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Alabama (now UAB). After serving two years as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Army, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at UAB. In 1973 he began his private practice in ophthalmology in Montgomery.

 

Dr. Hager is Board-Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is two-term past President of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of several other professional organizations. His primary interest is in cataract, cosmetic, and refractive surgery

 

Dr. Hager and his wife, Shirley, have four children and six grandchildren.

 

 CHARLES N. ROBBINS, M.D.

 

Before completing his undergraduate education at Memphis State University in Tennessee, Dr. Robbins served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot for eight years. He received his medical degree and performed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis. He began his ophthalmology practice in Montgomery in 1972.

 

Dr. Robbins is a Board-Certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is a two-term past President of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology.

 

Dr. Robbins began doing refractive surgery in 1984, eight years before any other ophthalmologist in Montgomery. He was the first Montgomery ophthalmologist to do an intraocular lens implant (in 1975) and the first Montgomery ophthalmologist to do a corneal transplant (in 1973). He has been interested in refractive surgery for over 20 years and has followed all the latest developments in refractive surgery. He began doing laser vision correction in February of 1997. He presently refers his surgery patients to Dr. Hager, Dr. Izer, or Dr. Eitzen.

 

He and his wife Cathy live in Montgomery.

 

JAMES D. IZER, M.D.

 

Dr. Izer is a native of Texas and performed his undergraduate training at the University of Houston graduating Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and finished with high honors.

During his internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan he was named Intern of the Year.  He completed his residency at the University of Michigan, W. K. Kellogg Eye Center where he was the Chief Resident. He is a Board Certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the American Society of Cataract Surgery.  He joined ITEC in 2002.

 

Dr. Izer and his wife Gina have three children, Sofia, Zachary, and Nathaniel.

 

JOHN P. EITZEN, M.D.

 

Dr. John P. Eitzen performed his undergraduate training at Auburn University graduating summa cum laude and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine with high honors.  He completed his initial ophthalmology residency at The University of Alabama in Birmingham and The Eye Foundation Hospital.  Subsequently, he underwent additional residency at LSU/Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans.  He is a veteran from the USAF and participated in Operation Desert Shield and Storm where he served as consultant to the CENTAF Surgeon General.

 

RICHARD M. MURPHY, O.D.

 

Dr. Richard Murphy has a B.S. and Masters degree in Secondary Education.  He taught junior high schhol in the Montgomery area. He graduated with honors from the University of Alabama School of Optometry in Birmingham and practiced in the Army and the Montgomery area before joining the ITEC team. ITEC is very proud to add his expertise to our expanding team of Central Alabama’s most experienced physicians in Refractive Surgery and treatment of glaucoma and cataracts.

 

Dr. Murphy and his wife Martha have two children and live in the Pike Road area.
