Our Physicians

JAMES D. IZER, M.D.

Dr. Izer grew up in Texas and performed his undergraduate training at the University of Houston graduating Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and finished with high honors.

During his internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan he was named Intern of the Year. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan, W. K. Kellogg Eye Center where he was the Chief Resident. He is a Board Certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the American Society of Cataract Surgery. He joined ITEC in 2002.

Dr. Izer and his wife Gina have three children, Sofia, Zachary, and Nathaniel.

ELIZABETH K. MURPHY, M.D.

Dr. Murphy was born in Opelika, Alabama, and raised in Lanett, Alabama. She attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL where she obtained a bachelor’s of art degree in Biology and graduated Cum Laude. She then attended the University of South Alabama in Mobile and obtained her Doctor of Medicine. She completed an internship at Baptist Health System in Birmingham and her ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Murphy and her husband, Quincy, have one son, Asher. 

RICHARD M. MURPHY, O.D.

Dr. Richard Murphy has a B.S. and Master's degree in Secondary Education. He taught junior high school in the Montgomery area. He graduated with honors from the University of Alabama School of Optometry in Birmingham and practiced in the Army and the Montgomery area before joining the ITEC team.Dr. Murphy brings his years of experience to eyecare, especially in the use of contact lenses.

Dr. Murphy and his wife Martha have two children and live in the Pike Road area.

Ashley H. Ware, O.D.

Dr. Ware is a native of Montgomery and graduated from Saint James School. After high school, Dr. Ware attended the University of Mississippi where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology. She then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and graduated with honors. She received the Contact Lens Practice Achievement Award. This prestigious award is voted on by fellow attendees. She completed an externship at the U.S. Veterans Affairs Hospital in Montgomery, as well as clinical externship in private practice settings. These externships developed her experience in primary care, emergency care, and contact lenses. Dr. Ware is licensed by the Alabama Board of Optometry and holds a certificate with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She has memberships with the American Optometric Association, Southern Council of Optometrist, Alabama Optometric Association and the East Central Alabama Optometric Society. She has been Co-President of the Central Zone of Alabama Optometric Association since 2018. Dr. Ware and her husband, Christian, have two children, Charlie and Palmer, and they live in Montgomery.
